INTRODUCING ROY DOLLARS

Roy is a rap artist Well known with the tittle Roy Dollars Brv.He was born in the island of Zanzibar before his parents shifted to Diane. So when did he start rapping?
"I began showing music talent at a tender age of 4 years. I could not sleep without some music playing in the background." He begun singing in school where he enterteined in big occasions. Though he started singing at an early age, he commenced recording  when he was 1 years in a street studio.Later he was discovered by Alabama Records which offered him a one year recording deal. Sadly, it was not successfull.
During this period he recorded songs like "Repp yor Hood" and "Soulmate" among others. ( check http://reverbnation.com/roydollars or @Google.com/Roy dollarsMusic.) Roy was able to break the silence in his home town Diani where his music was greatly selling in the charts. He recalls making beats from his home Mini studio and made freestyles with the beats.Though the journey to success is dusty, he still managed to hook up with Jamul Razz a former manager of Tanzanian Artist "Mabeshte" from B-Hits where they had a work shedule in Tanzania. Roy is currently an independent recording artist and a producer at a his home mini Studio,he enjoys Fashion and photography too.

COAST RAP QUEEN DROPS A NEW VIEDEO

You all know her as Achycho Dimplez or simply Miss Dimplez ( She really has dimples, you should see her). So far I can say she the only female rapper from Mombasa hitting headlines. Miss Dimplez, who is signed at Stantmastaz, has been able to capture the coastal showbiz in such a short period. Now she is in our radar again, this comes after releasing her the video of her famous single Take Over, which she features Producer Petrooz. From the audio to the video, the message is clear, she's here to take over, literally.
You may think I am exaggerating or something. You just have to watch it to believe. Click HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO

MOMBASA MEETS TANZANIA'S FINEST

After a successful launch of his album Falsafa za Mwenda Pole, Fikra Teule us back with a bang this time with a much bigger show at Alliance Francaise Mombasa. The show features one of Tanzanias finest hip hop artist, Nash Mc who will be performing alongside Fikra on that very day, the 22nd of November.

This has been one year that we have witnessed alot of action from the hiphop artists especially in Mombasa. Everyone seems to be doing something constructive, from albums and mixtapes to radio and  newspaper interviews to even topping in local charts. This is the revolution that we have been waiting for. If we go on with this spirit, we will be driving Range Rovers and live in fabcy estates. Hip hop guys have never been taken seriously especially in Mombasa, now we are proving them wrong. That time has come. It is now my people. Let's support the movement. Sell out all the tickets and show up in masses on 22nd November. Let's show everyone the power of Hip-hop.

OB ROCKS MISS TOURISM KWALE COUNTY

Just few days after his Nairobi tour promoting his new track featuring Poppa Don titled Tunazidi Kua, Odinareh had to pack his travel bag again and head to Kwale County for the glamorous miss tourism fashion show whereby he performed alongside Wyre The Love Child.
This comes as good news to hip-hop artists who in the past couldn't even dream of appearing in such events. Organizets and promoter are now considering hiphop artists in their events something we have been fighting for such a long time. There is progress.

LOSING ARTISTS DISMISS PWANI CELEBRITY AWARDS

As the voting for the Pwani Celebrity Award continues, controversy has again erupted in the coastal showbiz scene. This comes after the losing artists in the event decided to pull out from the race and actually question the credibility of the awards. One of the nominees who raised and issue is Kaa La Moto.

The hip-hop artist who currently is in the fourth position slightly above a hundred votes went on to facebook and posted that winning an award that has no basis doeesnt mean you are really good. People say that the post was directed to Benso, who is a hip-hop artist and a business man and currently leading in this category of male artist of the year with close to 1k votes. Other nominees who have a quit include Dazlah and some other guys (I don't even them, I think radio personalities). Kaa La Moto who is the 2013 Coast Music Awards Hip-hop artist of the year (read between the lines) further noted that a real star doesn't go begging for votes.
With that information at the back of our heads, do you think these guys are justified? Quiting out of the race just a few days before the main awards. My honest opinion is had they quit from the beginning then maybe that would have been authentic. Because looking at the leader board. The first one has 900+ votes the runners up 700+.....then pay attention here, the 3rd has 200- votes. Can you see that huge gap right there? If I want to have a show it goes without saying that I will choose the one with most votes. Because whether you begged for votes or not,  the bottom line is, 800 people voted and now they know you. Pure marketing. it's not like anyone put a gun to their heads.
But pulling that stunt of quitting. It just don't work for me. I wonder if the sentiments would be the same if these guys were on the lead. The problem with our industry is that we do not like to think beyond,  too much hate and jealousy. Look at all the other categories in the same awards,  none of them has issues. But music,  scandal after scandal. And you wonder why we ain't going anywhere.

HIP-HOP HEADS NOMINATED ON A PRESTIGIOUS COASTAL AWARDS

After years of complaining for being secluded, hip-hop artists have a reason to smile again. For the pasts few months, event organizers have been including hip-hop artist in their events and gigs, starting with the Stylus Dj Awards which took place at Whitesands, to the most recent Miss Pwani at Sheba Lounge, all of them having hip-hop heads on the headlines. And it doesn't stop there. Hiphop artists appear on the limelight again, this time battling for the prestigious Male Artist of the year in the Pwani Celebrity Award event. The Voting is on going on the events Page and the awards will take place on 8th.
Some of the Hip-hop artist who have been nominated include, Kaa La Moto, Ohms Law Montana and Benso. They are going up against Dahzla and Dogo Richie. Currently Benso is leading with over 430 votes, followed by Ohms Law who has around 300 votes. As the days keep closing in, artists are busy asking for votes, some do not seem to bother about it. But am sure we are all waiting to see who will scoop the award.

COAST TO COAST HEAVYWEIGHT COLLABORATION

This is one thing I didn't see coming. Honestly it caught me by surprise. As soon as I saw it on Facebook I called Odinareh and told him to email me the track Asap. And I wasn't disappointed at all  So Odinareh Bingwa has this major collabo with Poppa Don. Titled Tunazidi Kua. Download it HERE

Odinareh and Poppa Don
Musically speaking, I've always told people Odinareh is a strategist. And his plans always work. If you look at this critically,  it's not just a normal collabo. Poppa Don is the fastest growing hip hop artist in Nairobi right now. And Odinareh has caught Mombasa's attention pretty nice. So this move exposes the both to new crowds. People in Nairobi will get to hear and appreciate OB, the same thing will happen to Poppa Don in coast. Thus accelerating their rank a bit high.
Odinareh is currently in Nairobi doing rounds on radio stations from Citizen to Homeboyz all showing love to the new jam. Am expecting after they are done they'll make their way to Mombasa for more promotion on coastal airwaves.
More to that,  the track is pretty catchy. It's multilingual with some vernacular rap in it.OB raps in Kikuyu and Poppa Don does his thing in Luo. The lyricism of both artists do not disappoint either. And news just got in that there's a video on the way. This guys mean serious business!

OHMS LAW MONTANA GETS GOOD RECEPTION IN NAIROBI

Over the week, Coast superstar, Ohms Law Montana was in Nairobi and from the look of things, he has been getting really good media reception over there. On Tuesday, he had an interview with Willy M. Tuva of Mambo Mseto, on Citizen Radio during the hip-hop Tuesday show. On Wednesday he was on air again, this time on Capital Fm lyrical Wednesday show. (PAUSE THERE. For those who don't know, Lyrical Wednesday is like the Ultimate Hiphop show on radio, that every hip-hop artist covets.) Thursday again, he was on air, this time on KU Fm

While in Nairobi, he has released a brand new track Wasela Wangu under Stantmastaz Record Label based in Mombasa. The track is available for download, CLICK HERE.
With the reception that he has received, this may be the breakthrough moment that he has been waiting for. While other artists are still struggling to get airplay in coast radios, this guy amevuka boarder.

HIP-HOP AND FASHION. MISS MOMBASA CONTEST: HOW IT WENT DOWN.

On Wednesday 8th October, those of you who attended the Miss Mombasa beauty contest have to agree with me that it was more than awesome. The turn out was superb considering it was on a Wednesday, and people were dressed to kill, after all, it was a fashion even. But that's not what took me there, on the performing list, there was, Odinareh Bingwa and Cypreezy. After making all that noise and bringing up controversial topics, finally, event organizers have heard our cry. Soon hip-hop artist will be earning lots of money from these events.
Spincycle DJ Bonnez was able to keep the crowd on their feet from the beginning of the event to the very end. The models did not disappoint either, though I did not stay long to see who was crowned, that's not what took me there, I managed to get some cool photos (yes I am a paparazzi too)

THE MOST AWAITED HIP-HOP EVENT IN MOMBASA

31st of October we will witness history in the making as Fikrah Teule launches his Album Falsafa Za Mwenda Pole at Alliance Francaise de Mombasa. Why am I saying "History in the making"? Simple. Over the past two years (that's the period I have been in Mombasa) have you guys witnessed any Hip-hop artist do a launch for his Album?  Earlier this year Dizasta pulled that stant at Yellow Ribbon Club when he was launching his mixtape Black City. Other than that nothing yet.
The other hip-hop artist who has an Album is Odinareh Bingwa, but he opted to sell it via digital platforms instead. Mshamba Mjini, a mixtape by Frankwest Mshamba is the most recent hip-hop mixtape from Mombasa. Again, it has not been launched formely. So this makes Fikrah Teule's event one of a kind in Mombasa.

Advance tickets are going for 200 bob, gate charges 250. With the hype that is on right now we are almost sure it will be an awesome event. Everyone around Mombasa mark your calendars. 31st October we launch Falsafa Za Mwenda Pole.

JUUKUA BAND SET NEW STANDARDS IN THE COASTAL SHOWBIZ *PHOTOS INCLUDED*

Yesterday we (those who attended the concert) witnessed history in the making. Juukua band single handedly pulled a stunt that most of these coast event organizers wouldn't do. With limited funds and resources, the crew used basic materials to decorate their concert making it the best I have attended ever since I came to Mombasa. Now next time I wanna have a launch of anything I know who I will be contacting. The Band has just proved that we do not need Safaricom and Tusker to sponsor us so that an event can be successful. No, sir. We just need to make good use of the available material.
What I liked most is the turn out of coast Hip-hop artists who were there to support the crew. I spotted Ohms Law, Fikra Teule, Miss Dimplez, Anonymous Vedette, Vasatyle man, Johny Skani, who was there with the Pwani TV crew. Nyota Ndogo, humbly "opened the concert" (okay I have a feeling that is grammatically wrong, that's why it is in quotes) I said humbly because, she is the bigger star (lol, Nyota Ndogo, is big star, get it?) but she curtained raised for the band. I am yet to see anything like that in hip-hop. Come to think of it, this is not the first time she has performed with the band, it's like she's nurturing them, giving them direction. Who does that in hip-hop? All I see is beefs and unhealthy competition to see who is the "best".

Well I am not much of a photographer, but I managed to capture some photos.

THE GOSPEL OF FIKRAH TEULE: FALSAFA ZA MWENDA POLE *NEW ALBUM*

If you are a frequent listener of conscious hip-hop and you haven't bumped into Fikrah Teule then maybe your are not much of a fan as you thought. From Mombasa, this young artist has been able to keep it conscious for so long, and now he wants to take it to another level. How? You may ask. Well, we caught up with him a few days ago for an interview. This is what we got:

UHE: There was a time you announced that you had quit music, months later you are launching an album. Is it safe to say you were working on this album during that period?
FIKRA: Yes, you see sometimes things get a little bit rough but we learn from experience to never quit and victory never comes easy, so I had to do some soul searching and rediscover the power within, get the courage to summon it and bounce back to the scene. I've always wanted to contribute to Kenyan music,  something tangible that can be felt not only here but across borders, East African an worldwide man. So Quitting has never been an option but you can always take a sabbatical n use it as a strategy to weigh the situation and the direction you are about to take.

UHE: Who produced and mastered the album? And what was the experience working with them?
FIKRA: The album has productions by Tedd Josiah, Mg Hiphophead, N.j.e  and Petrooz...so be ready for some serious music here.

UHE: Why choose the title "Falsafa za Mwenda Pole" what does it mean?

FIKRA: It has taken me almost a decade coming no favors or anything but sweat and hard work, I want to seize the moment for real, it's worth it!  I've been patient, resilient, courageous, a believer and above all hopeful that I'll do it big one day no matter what.

UHE: Some of the artists featured in the track?
FIKRA: Hustlajay, Kwame, Petrooz, Iddi, Achycho, Nafsi Huru amongst others. No big names as expected but good artists who are finding their way.

UHEShould we expect anything different from this?
FIKRA: Yes one big video to drop soon..

UHEAny message to the fan out there?
FIKRA: We all need support at any level, no one is ever big for support from the people you can count on. Peace and respect to y'all. God BLESS YOU!!!

The album launch will be at Alliance Francaise de Mombasa, on 31st October. We will be there to cover the event.

Your Sunday's will never be the same again, that is, if you are an upcoming artist within or around Mtwapa and you really want a platform to showcase your talent. Kaa La Moto, in conjunction with The Ultimate Hip Hop Experience and                Africa Art Sounds Bring you KULE SHOW at The Oceaniq Breeze restaurant and bar in Mtwapa.
Having mentioned Kaa La Moto and UHE I know you are thinking this is an all hip-hop affair, right? We'll you are 80% correct. In as much as we want it to be a hip-hop show, we would like to incorporate all talents here, so as to give equal chances and opportunities to all talented people around. Other than the KULE show, the only other show that does this kind of staff is the Talent Unplugged at Little Theaters Club, in Mbaraki.
We hope to expose more talent with this movement, and change the coastal showbiz in the process. You are all encouraged to attend  every Sunday, from 2pm till late. This also gives kids a platform to show off their talented side.

COAST HIP-HOP HEAVYWEIGHT PULLS AN EXTRA-ODINAREH STUNT

Other than good music, Odinareh Bingwa is known for speaking his mind. He is the kind of that calls a spade a spade and not a big spoon. Whether you choke on it or not is really non of his business. Now this may seem like a good character trait, until that moment when the spotlight is on you. You will have nowhere to hide.
After releasing his hit song "Nusu Saa na Rais" they got into a word fight with Mc Gates of Pwani Fm who criticized the song live on air (there's that line about Mike Sonko, the president and weed, which did not amuse the presenter), a move that somehow displeased the rapper. After a bit of cold war playing out, Odinareh went HAM on the presenter on a facebook post. Check the screen shot image.

He attacked the whole Mashav Mashav campus man. The lecturer and all the students in the campus. That I did not see coming I must say. The students were not so happy about this, and now they want Mr. Make A Name to actually apologize. Something that wont happen I guess.
While that was going on here, Nusu Saa Na Rais continued to get love country wide, as it made to the People's Magazine music countdown.
Let's watch and see how all these turns out. In the meantime download the track HERE

30 MINS WITH THE PRESIDENT. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I have to ask this, if you had 30 mins with the president, what would you do, or say to him? This generation of ours, the first thing guys would do is probably take a selfie. If you think about it critically, what would you do? Most people, due to our greedy and selfish nature, will probably ask for riches, and in our case, probably ask for a hook up with the daughter ( I know I'd ask for that)

This Wednesday, Odinareh will be dropping a brand new track Nusu Saa Na Rais a classic hip-hop track, and having heard his previous tracks (number ones on the radio btw) we expect nothing less than pure bliss. The day after tomorrow, the track drops. Probably by then, you will have the answer to the question.

DRULIXX IS BACK WITH A NEW HIT

Displaying druuuuu.jpg

"Unacho do we do lakini do viproper" That's the first line on the chorus. Drulix is back with a hit track Vi-Proper. The track basically tells people to give 100% in whatever they do. This track is just one out the several tracks that will feature in the forthcoming mixtape titled MTP The Mixtape which may be released before the year ends.
The track was produced at Stantmastaz,by Petrooz. So you already know the mastering is high quality. The hook is also catchy, the lady's voice brings out a nice feeling that adds flavor to the song. Enough talk, how about you just download the track and compare your opinion with mine.

WHAT'S BEEF?

Kaa La Moto

Mombasa doesn't seem to be getting tired of beefs. That's the order of the day in the showbiz. The latest beef-session is between the Coast Music Awards Hip-hop Artist of the Year, Kaa La Moto Kiumbe and Johny Skani. Now, I don't know how this thing started, but today during The Cypher Show on Pwani Fm it elevated when those two guys exchanged words live on air. Johny constantly kept calling Kaa La Moto "Mtoto wa Juzi, hujui kitu". According to Kaa La Moto, Johny Skani claims he's a legend yet he ain't got nothing to back that up. From the way he was talking over the phone, there was a lot of bitterness in his voice. On the other hand, Johny Skani said today, that Kaa La Moto wants to beef with him to get some fame.
Rumor has it that Kaa La Moto disrespected Johny of the hip-hop crew Skani Flani (most of you new cats, including me don't know anything about this crew other than, it existed, lol, no pun intended) they almost fought at SQ studio. "Hatungepigana, ningempiga mimi" said Kaa La Moto, (who is also a karate kid btw, black belt I think) earlier today, talking to Gates via Phone

I know you are all dying to hear my point of view. Well, I am saying this loud and clear, If Kaa La Moto disrespected Johny in any way ( I said if, coz I am not certain) it's because he saw a reason to, or in simpler words Johny Skani must have done something to arouse the disrespect. You cannot just disrespect someone for no reason, it doesn't go that way. Also, respect is a two way traffic, even the old have to respect the young, if they don't they don't deserve that respect anyway.

So those are my sentiments, what about you? Are you in support of Kaa La Moto or Johny Skani. I wanna hear your views.

THE LUO FLOW RAP QUEEN

There are not so many female emcees as compared to males in this hip-hop industry. Both old, and new cats combined, the number is still low. In Mombasa it's even worse. I had actually given up on the quest of looking a that unique female rapper, okay, lemme rephrase, I had almost given up until the day I stumbled upon the next big female emcee Kenya will ever have (no sugarcoating here)
I admire this lady because of her confidence. She does not shy off the stage, actually, she fights (not literally, though) for a chance to perform. She has a strong powerful voice, very commanding. Every time she's on stage rapping you have no choice but pay attention.

She's multilingual. Raps in English, Swahili and Luo. When she's rapping in Luo I don't even get half of the thing she says, language barrier here, plus she's freaking fast man, but I just sounds nice and creative you can't help node your head.
Article half way done and I haven't even told you her name. If you are a Mombasa resident you already know who am talking about right? She calls herself, Achycho Dimplez. But since it's Mombasa, folks here have a tendency of coastalizing names, so they baptized her "Mtoto Dimpali".
That said and done, I know all of you hearing about her for the first time want to listen to her music. I've made your work easy. Click HERE

And, before I forget, She's a Stantmastaz Production.

THE CLIQ CALLED DONCHE

Last year during the first Stylus DJ awards at Whitesands, immediately after my performance, I went bumped into three guys on my way to the washroom. They told me how they liked my performance bla bla bla, we exchanged contacts, talked a bit, (but I wasn't paying much attention coz, you know, that, thrill/adrenaline rush just after a performance was still on). Long story short, Flash-forward one year later, those kids are all over. Some have called them the coastal version of Camp Mulla, well there could be some sense, since the crew has four dudes and a hot lady (whom I seriously hope is not underage because, eeeh, let's just say she might make me reconsider my crush on Miss Karun). Ladies and gentlemen let me formerly introduce you to The Donche Cliq.
Franko (vocalist), Sweesh, Rakael (vocalist) and Dildz

What the heck is Donche? I know, I asked them that question too when I caught up with them at the Pwani Vina event, "Well, Donche originated from an Italian word, meaning brotherhood in business, which in our case, music is the business" said Sweesh, one of the rappers from the group. The members are Sweesh, Dildz, Richmond (these guys are the rappers) then Rakael and Franko are the vocalists. The group is only one year old, very young and talented urban Hip-hop artists. To get their music, daily updates, contacts (not for the lady though, I am marking my hypothetical territory here) just google DONCHE CLIQ
