THE CLIQ CALLED DONCHE

Last year during the first Stylus DJ awards at Whitesands, immediately after my performance, I went bumped into three guys on my way to the washroom. They told me how they liked my performance bla bla bla, we exchanged contacts, talked a bit, (but I wasn't paying much attention coz, you know, that, thrill/adrenaline rush just after a performance was still on). Long story short, Flash-forward one year later, those kids are all over. Some have called them the coastal version of Camp Mulla, well there could be some sense, since the crew has four dudes and a hot lady (whom I seriously hope is not underage because, eeeh, let's just say she might make me reconsider my crush on Miss Karun). Ladies and gentlemen let me formerly introduce you to The Donche Cliq.
Franko (vocalist), Sweesh, Rakael (vocalist) and Dildz

What the heck is Donche? I know, I asked them that question too when I caught up with them at the Pwani Vina event, "Well, Donche originated from an Italian word, meaning brotherhood in business, which in our case, music is the business" said Sweesh, one of the rappers from the group. The members are Sweesh, Dildz, Richmond (these guys are the rappers) then Rakael and Franko are the vocalists. The group is only one year old, very young and talented urban Hip-hop artists. To get their music, daily updates, contacts (not for the lady though, I am marking my hypothetical territory here) just google DONCHE CLIQ

MOMBASA'S FINEST HIP HOP ARTISTS TO PERFORM DURING THE STYLUS DJ AWARDS

The prestigious Stylus Dj awards will be going down on 30th August at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa to mark it's second year
The Anonymous Vedette
running. Voting has been going on for quit sometime now and the nominated deejay have been campaigning over various social media site looking for votes. But that's not our story.
The performance list is what we are concerned with. Honestly, I have  not checked the entire list because I was concentrating particularly on hip-hop artists. I can confidently tell you that Hip Hop has been represented by the best Hip-Hop acts of Mombasa, this time, not as CURTAIN RAISERS but as main artists for the event. These guys are; Johnny Skani, Odinare Bingwa, Ohm's Law and The Anonymous Vedette.

Ohms Law
If you claim to love coastal hip-hop and do not have either of the above mentioned in your playlist then you need to get your shit together. These guys have been very active on the Hip Hop no only musically but socially. With the aim of setting standards for coast Hip-Hop. Both Odinareh and Ohms Law have had their tracks number one on Pwani FM charts. Showing that if given a chance in Mombasa hip hop could be the trending genre. Although it has not yet been formerly launched on any radio station The Anonymous Vedette's street anthem Hip Hop City, which is the soul track he has released this year seems to be doing well in and out of Mombasa, with regards to online plays and downloads. Johnny Skani is a veteran in the coastal music, having been in the game for long he is one of the Most experienced artist around.

Odinareh Bingwa
Now it is up to these chosen Hip Hop artist to rock the crowd during the event and change the perception that event organizers and music promoters may have against hip hop. This may be the turning point of Hip hop in Mombasa that every one has been waiting for.

HIP HOP GOES TO THE BEACH

The Coastal Version of Hip Hop Hook Up has just gotten bigger and better. The show which was initially held at Bistro Aphrodisia club in Mtwapa has now relocated to Big Tree Beach Bar. The first show will be held on 30th August.
This move gives the show an opportunity in terms of attendance by both fans and artists. Big Tree being an renowned Italian restaurant and a hot spot for tourists will boost the CV of the show, and artists may get an opportunity to perform in front of international people.
Luciano, the owner of Big Tree has offered to sponsor the band equipment that will be used during the show for live performances. He plays a big role in this show for he has given the venue totally free. We all know getting a venue to host a monthly show costs so much money especially a place like Big Tree.
Now that the show has moved to Big Tree, we expect a lot of good stuff coming from Mombasa. A stronger bond has been created between Pwani Vina and The Ultimate Hiphop Experience. The founders of the two movements will be working closely to see to the success of the show and from this we expect a merger to happen really soon.
So ladies and Gentlemen, mark your calenders. Hip Hop Just got better.
