THE MOMBASA FIESTA! CAUSE OF FURRY TO THE HIPHOP LEGENDS

The Mombasa Fiesta was received with a lot of anxiousness from the crowd who were eager to see the outcome. 50 artists on one platform is something you don't see everyday. Personally I was impressed by the work of Dj Lenium and Archy Kawere who were managing the event from backstage dealing with the artist chronological arrangement of performance. The sequel was on point, and they pulled it real nice and smooth. The Emcees to were tight, I cant complain. Sound system was brought in by Stantmastaz Studio, (the CEO of Stantmastaz was actually the hero of the day, for reasons that you wont know about coz no one will tell you). The artists were good too. Hip-hop was represented by PMG, Dizasta, Odinareh, Petrooz, Ohms Law Montana, Vedette, Jamii Tofauti ( a dope group btw, from my hood, Barsheba, watch out for an article about them), Frankwest too was there, (ever heard of Amber Kush? No? soon you will)......they killed it and represented the movement. There was a special appearance by Katoi wa Tabaka, all the way from Malindi (Kaya Hiphop), he went on stage when the legendary UKOO FLANI were performing.
In as much as the event was a cause for celebration to everyone, the piooners of hiphop, UKOO FLANI thought otherwise. To start with, they were given short time to perfom and they were curt of stage (they performed two tracks only), that pissed them off. But they walked away anyway. Thinking that was over, I found out how mistaken I had been. I heard one of the members shouting insults with anger saying "Mimi hivi ni perform show ya free? Siwezi chapa show ya charity!......" So apparently they came all the way hoping that they would get a token of appreciation!

So that got me wondering, who was the irresponsible one, the guy who didn't specify it was a charity show, or them for not inquiring if they'd get paid.....?

RISTO ON THE LEASH!

So we were just chilling at Stantmastaz on Easter Monday with Petrooz and the X-Soldier when this Magongo ninja walked in. I haven't known Ristoh for such a long time but I can tell you one thing, he is on point (I don't know what "on point" means, I just use it coz people use it....we all do that right?) Just to describe him a little, this guy is calm and composed, until he goes on stage. He totally, transforms to a BEAST! But that is a story for another day. Back to the original story, now after he walked in and greeting us, he said he'd come to pick a track. "Play the track please," I told the youngest (and best) producer in town, eager to hear the track. Then it got played.

The track is titled Money Pesa and I dont have words to describe it! I am not sure when he is dropping that ( coz he has a video too coming soon! And that Video is out of this world! Purely a street video, nice quality.....wacha niacjie tu hapo) I have mad respect for this guy! The verses, he kills them, stage performance, he kills that too, but his nature is calm and relaxed! Pure definition of a star. Hip-hop in Mombasa is raising at a very fast rate, we have unity and solidarity anyone who tries to break that should be  cut out. I keep telling people everywhere I go, it is now or never, we have no space for error! Big up to  all hip-hop people.

THE FINAL BATTLE

Dear Reader,
We have been running ever since 29th January this year every Wednesday at Yellow Ribbon. I remember our first show was graced by Smallz Lethal and the Washamba Wenza crew and he told me that what U had started would soon grow to be a big movement of which it has been fulfilled ( negroe you a profet or what? I like Ndizi flow
btw....) We have had many shows, succesful, others disappointing, but the important thing is we stack together as one crew. I have never seen hiphop artist join together for a common course with a lot of passion like you guys have. We have had so much fun togehter and we have grown as hiphop artists. 16th of April, the battle between The Anonymous Vedette and Bizill marks our last show for season 1. More coming during our second season which will be in 7th May. Thanks for everyone who has shown us support, from the artists I cant mention you all here, those who have featured in our show, and those who came just to support, to the fans too, the LTC talent unplugged crew, the Yellow Ribbon staff and everyone at large, thanks for making our show a total success. See you in season two. Our Facebook page The Ultimate Hiphop Experience- Mombasa is still active, you can check our updates there, and incase you have a suggestion or an inquiry please do not hesitate to inbox us or send an email uhe.crew@gmail.com

GOOD SIGN FOR COAST HIPHOP

After whining and complaining about how coast hiphop is beinged killed, well, someone decided to shut my "bitching" by slapping me with an event; a one of a kind event that will involve 50 artists (and a number of dancers, mcess, djs blah blah blah,....) The call it THE COAST FIESTA going down this Sunday at Mama Ngina Drrive. Some of the big hiphop names perfoming in the event include, Dizasta, Kaa La Moto, Jamii Tofauti, Odinareh Bingwa, Anonymous Vedette, amongst others. Well, now my yapping has stopped at least our hiphop guys have been represented! Big up to who ever came up with this idea.

THEY KILLING COAST HIPHOP

If you have been following the coastal showbiz scene you might have noticed the vigorous hustle that hiphop guys are putting in their industry. For those in the dark let me enlighten you. For one, Odinare Bingwa has an album that sells on iTunes. Recently he was in Nairobi on a purely business trip to promote his album, not just in the streets but also in uptown music stores. Drulix on the otherside has ensured that Mtaani Mtopanga is the official street wear in Mombasa, now everyone want that cloth in their collection! On April 4th we launched Black City the mixtape at Yellow Ribbon Club. The event was successful. For those who missed, the whole session was recorded and video CDs will be out soon. On Sunday, Anonymous Vedette and Dizasta were selling their music CDs at Big Tree, that is, after killing the show and taking the whole crowd down with their incredible perfomance, which was all freestyle by the way. These are just a few examples here.

Now what am about to write next was not part of the content but I just had to:

So when I was in the middle of writing this article, I received a call from Vasatyle Man (google him) telling me about a big event going down at Mama Ngina drive. Immediately after the call, I received a whatsapp text from OB (Odinareh, just for the sake of those who are clueless about hiphop in Mombasa) sharing the link to the post on the event. This is the list of the artists going to grace the occassion:

SUSUMILA..
KIDIS..
CHIKUZEE..
NYOTA NDOGO
ALLY B..
DAZLAH
DOGORICHY
KIGOTO..
SHEMBWANA MASAUTI
WYNAS..
At the end of the list they added "na wasanii wengine wengi...."
I dont know if you guys see it, but from the list, there aint no single hiphop artists. If anything we have been categorized as the rest. That alone shows that hiphop is not the main music in Mombasa, we will always be ranked as the "the rest" regardless of the efforts that we put in. I mean, from the above named artists, who has an album? Now, who has that album on iTunes? Which one one them has a trending label in the streets? Which one of them has had a succesful mixtape launch? Who sells their music in the streets and people actually buy them? Which one of them has a musical show that promotes artists? Matter of fact which one them even does anything for the other artists?
We are trying our level best but it seems these guys are not noticing, or maybe they are just ignoring us. The original tittle of this article was supposed to be "The Rise of Coast Hiphop" but damn, I had to change. They killing us. Question is who?
