The Mombasa Fiesta was received with a lot of anxiousness from the crowd who were eager to see the outcome. 50 artists on one platform is something you don't see everyday. Personally I was impressed by the work of Dj Lenium and Archy Kawere who were managing the event from backstage dealing with the artist chronological arrangement of performance. The sequel was on point, and they pulled it real nice and smooth. The Emcees to were tight, I cant complain. Sound system was brought in by Stantmastaz Studio, (the CEO of Stantmastaz was actually the hero of the day, for reasons that you wont know about coz no one will tell you). The artists were good too. Hip-hop was represented by PMG, Dizasta, Odinareh, Petrooz, Ohms Law Montana, Vedette, Jamii Tofauti ( a dope group btw, from my hood, Barsheba, watch out for an article about them), Frankwest too was there, (ever heard of Amber Kush? No? soon you will)......they killed it and represented the movement. There was a special appearance by Katoi wa Tabaka, all the way from Malindi (Kaya Hiphop), he went on stage when the legendary UKOO FLANI were performing. In as much as the event was a cause for celebration to everyone, the piooners of hiphop, UKOO FLANI thought otherwise. To start with, they were given short time to perfom and they were curt of stage (they performed two tracks only), that pissed them off. But they walked away anyway. Thinking that was over, I found out how mistaken I had been. I heard one of the members shouting insults with anger saying "Mimi hivi ni perform show ya free? Siwezi chapa show ya charity!......" So apparently they came all the way hoping that they would get a token of appreciation!
So that got me wondering, who was the irresponsible one, the guy who didn't specify it was a charity show, or them for not inquiring if they'd get paid.....?
